District 1 Saigon Apple Store Walking Route - Hit 5 Stores in 2 Hours
Last month I had a single afternoon in Saigon before my flight home. I needed to compare MacBook Air prices in person across multiple retailers because I'd already checked our comparison tool and noticed a 1,200,000₫ (approximately ₹3,480) spread between the cheapest and most expensive store. That's real money. So I mapped out a district 1 Saigon apple store walking route that would let me hit all five major authorized retailers on foot, in about two hours, without doubling back on myself.
It worked. I compared prices, negotiated a bundle deal at the third store, grabbed an iced ca phe sua da between shops, and still made it back to my hotel with time to spare. Here's exactly how to replicate the route.
Why Walk Instead of Grabbing a Taxi?
District 1 is shockingly walkable. The five Apple authorized retailers I'm covering sit within a roughly 2.5 km radius, and the streets between them pass through some of Saigon's best landmarks - Nguyen Hue Walking Street, Ben Thanh Market, the old Saigon Notre-Dame Cathedral area. You'd want to see these anyway.
More importantly, walking between stores gives you comparison time. After leaving one shop, you've got 5-10 minutes to pull up your notes, check the iPhone price comparison on your phone, and think about whether that "special today only" discount is actually worth it. Grab taxis and you'll rush the process.
Tip: Start this route between 9:30 AM and 10:00 AM. All five stores will be open by then, the heat hasn't peaked yet, and you'll finish before the midday sun gets brutal. If you're going in summer (May-August), bring water and sunscreen - you'll be outside for a cumulative 30-40 minutes of walking.
The Complete District 1 Saigon Apple Store Walking Route
Here's the full route mapped out. Total walking distance: approximately 2.8 km. Total time including store visits: roughly 2 hours.
Store 1: ShopDunk - 76 Nguyen Du, District 1
Start time: 9:30 AM
Your route begins at ShopDunk's flagship location on Nguyen Du, tucked just off the southeastern corner of Nguyen Hue Walking Street. If you're staying anywhere in the backpacker area (Bui Vien, Pham Ngu Lao), this is a 10-minute walk or a 30,000₫ (approximately ₹87) Grab ride to get here.
ShopDunk is Vietnam's Apple Premium Reseller - the closest thing to an actual Apple Store you'll find in the country. The interior is clean, bright, and deliberately modeled after Apple's retail aesthetic. Light wood tables, products unboxed for you to test, staff in matching shirts.
What to do here (20 minutes):
- Check the price on whatever you're planning to buy and note it in your phone
- Ask about current promotions - ShopDunk often bundles cases or screen protectors
- Confirm they issue VAT refund invoices for tourists (they do, but ask upfront)
- Test the keyboard layout if you're buying a MacBook - it's the same international layout that works perfectly in India
For detailed pricing, I've written a full breakdown in our ShopDunk vs FPT Shop comparison. Short version: ShopDunk tends to be cheapest on iPhones, competitive on MacBooks.
Sample prices at ShopDunk (March 2026):
- iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB: 34,490,000₫ (approximately ₹1,00,000)
- MacBook Air M4 16GB/256GB: 27,990,000₫ (approximately ₹81,170)
- AirPods Pro 2: 5,990,000₫ (approximately ₹17,370)
Warning: Don't buy at the first store unless you've already done your research and know ShopDunk has the best price. The whole point of this walking route is to compare. Note the prices, take a photo of the price tag, and move on.
Landmark nearby: As you exit, you're steps from Nguyen Hue Walking Street - that massive pedestrian boulevard with the Ho Chi Minh statue at the north end. Great for photos if you haven't already visited.
Walking to Store 2: 650 meters, ~8 minutes
Head southwest along Nguyen Du toward Le Loi Street. You'll cross the edge of Nguyen Hue Walking Street - the wide, beautifully tiled pedestrian boulevard that's essentially Saigon's outdoor living room. On weekends it's packed with families and street performers. On weekday mornings it's peaceful, with just a few joggers and people walking to work.
Turn right onto Le Loi and you'll hit FPT Shop within a few minutes. Le Loi is one of District 1's main commercial streets, lined with shops and restaurants.
Store 2: FPT Shop - 164 Le Loi, District 1
Arrival: ~10:00 AM
FPT Shop is one of Vietnam's "big three" electronics retailers (along with The Gioi Di Dong and CellphoneS). They've got over 700 stores nationwide, but this Le Loi branch is one of their best for tourists - central location, decent English-speaking staff, and a wide Apple product selection.
The vibe here is different from ShopDunk. It's more of a mainstream electronics retailer - think rows of phones and laptops on display stands, promotional banners everywhere, staff wearing branded polo shirts. Not as polished, but perfectly legitimate and often competitive on price.
What to do here (15 minutes):
- Compare their iPhone and MacBook prices against what you noted at ShopDunk
- Ask about "gia giam them" (additional discount) - FPT Shop staff sometimes have small discretionary discounts
- Check if they have any trade-in offers running (useful if you're buying for someone who has an old device)
- Confirm VAT invoice availability
I genuinely think FPT Shop is underrated by tourists. Everyone talks about ShopDunk because it looks like an Apple Store, but FPT Shop's prices are frequently identical or even lower, especially on MacBooks. Their after-sales service network is also massive - if something goes wrong while you're still in Vietnam, there's an FPT Shop on every other block.
Sample prices at FPT Shop (March 2026):
- iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB: 34,690,000₫ (approximately ₹1,00,600)
- MacBook Air M4 16GB/256GB: 27,690,000₫ (approximately ₹80,300)
- AirPods Pro 2: 6,090,000₫ (approximately ₹17,660)

Walking to Store 3: 500 meters, ~6 minutes
Continue west on Le Loi toward Ben Thanh Market. You literally can't miss it - it's the big yellow colonial-era market hall with the clock tower. Ben Thanh is one of Saigon's most famous landmarks, and you'll walk right past its front entrance.
Coffee stop recommendation: Before hitting Store 3, grab an iced coffee at Highlands Coffee inside Ben Thanh Market's food court or at the Highlands branch on the corner of Le Loi and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia. A ca phe sua da (Vietnamese iced milk coffee) costs 39,000₫ (approximately ₹113) and it'll keep you going through the next three stores. Honestly, Vietnamese coffee hits different - it's strong, sweet, and you'll be wired for the rest of the morning.
Store 3: The Gioi Di Dong (Mobile World) - 60 Le Loi, District 1
Arrival: ~10:25 AM
The Gioi Di Dong - literally "Mobile World" - is Vietnam's largest electronics retailer by store count. Over 3,500 locations. The Le Loi branch near Ben Thanh Market is convenient for this route, and it's one of their better-stocked locations for Apple products.
This store feels the most "mass market" of the five. Bright fluorescent lighting, products behind glass counters, promotional stickers on everything. Don't let the aesthetic fool you - they're fully authorized and sell genuine Apple products at competitive prices. They're actually part of the same parent company (Mobile World Investment Corporation) that runs the grocery chain Bach Hoa Xanh, so their supply chain and logistics are rock solid.
What to do here (15 minutes):
- Price check your target products again
- Ask about installment promotions - The Gioi Di Dong runs aggressive installment plans that sometimes translate to effective discounts even for one-time buyers
- Browse their accessories - they often have good prices on Apple Watch bands, cases, and chargers
- Check stock of specific configurations (colors, storage sizes)
Sample prices at The Gioi Di Dong (March 2026):
- iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB: 34,590,000₫ (approximately ₹1,00,310)
- MacBook Air M4 16GB/256GB: 27,890,000₫ (approximately ₹80,880)
- AirPods Pro 2: 5,890,000₫ (approximately ₹17,080)
If you're curious about payment methods at these stores - cash, card, or international debit - I've covered that thoroughly in Cash vs Card at Vietnam Apple Stores. The short answer: bring a card with low forex fees.
Walking to Store 4: 750 meters, ~10 minutes
Head east from Ben Thanh Market along Le Loi, then turn left (north) onto Hai Ba Trung. This stretch takes you through the heart of District 1's commercial district. Hai Ba Trung is a major artery - busy with motorbikes, lined with shops, restaurants, and a few French colonial buildings. You'll pass the Saigon Centre mall on your left and the historic Continental Hotel area to your northeast.
Store 4: CellphoneS - 112-114 Hai Ba Trung, District 1
Arrival: ~10:55 AM
CellphoneS is the retailer that tech-savvy Vietnamese shoppers swear by. They've built their reputation on consistently low prices and a slightly more "enthusiast" vibe than the big box retailers. The Hai Ba Trung store is one of their flagship District 1 locations.
The store is smaller than FPT Shop or The Gioi Di Dong, but in a good way - it's focused. Staff here tend to be more knowledgeable about specs and configurations. If you're torn between the MacBook Air M4 and MacBook Pro M4, this is the store where the person helping you might actually have an informed opinion rather than just reading the spec sheet.
What to do here (15 minutes):
- Compare prices - CellphoneS often matches or beats everyone else
- Ask about their "gia online" (online price) - sometimes their in-store price is slightly higher than what's listed on their website, and they'll match it if you show them
- Check if they have any bundle deals (phone + accessories)
- Their staff generally speak decent English in this District 1 location
For a complete store review, read our CellphoneS store review for tourists. They're my personal pick for best value, though ShopDunk wins on the overall shopping experience.
Sample prices at CellphoneS (March 2026):
- iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB: 34,290,000₫ (approximately ₹99,440)
- MacBook Air M4 16GB/256GB: 27,590,000₫ (approximately ₹80,010)
- AirPods Pro 2: 5,890,000₫ (approximately ₹17,080)
Tip: CellphoneS runs flash sales on their website that aren't always reflected in-store. Check cellphones.com.vn on your phone before negotiating - if the online price is lower, show it to the staff and they'll almost always honor it.
Walking to Store 5: 800 meters, ~10 minutes
Continue south down Hai Ba Trung and then bear right onto Nguyen Trai. This stretch passes through the lower end of District 1 - still very much urban and busy, with plenty of shops and street food vendors. Nguyen Trai is a long commercial street that eventually connects to District 5 (Chinatown/Cholon). You won't need to go that far - Di Dong Viet is within the District 1 stretch.
Coffee stop #2 (optional): There's a Phuc Long cafe near the intersection of Hai Ba Trung and Nguyen Trai. Their peach tea is legendary, and at 45,000₫ (approximately ₹130), it's a solid pick-me-up before the final store. Phuc Long is to Vietnamese tea-based drinks what Highlands is to coffee.
Store 5: Di Dong Viet - 256 Nguyen Trai, District 1
Arrival: ~11:25 AM
Di Dong Viet rounds out the big five Apple authorized retailers in HCMC's District 1. They're a smaller chain than the others - around 40 stores versus hundreds - but they've carved out a loyal following by being consistently aggressive on pricing. They're the scrappy underdog.
The Nguyen Trai store is compact but well-stocked. Don't expect the showroom feel of ShopDunk - this is a more utilitarian shopping experience. Products behind counters, staff focused on quick transactions. What they lack in ambiance, they make up for in price.
What to do here (15 minutes):
- Final price comparison - Di Dong Viet is often the cheapest or tied for cheapest
- Ask about their member pricing program (even tourists can sign up)
- They're good on accessories - cables, chargers, and cases tend to be well-priced
- Confirm VAT invoice availability and get the details for your tax refund at the airport
Sample prices at Di Dong Viet (March 2026):
- iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB: 34,390,000₫ (approximately ₹99,730)
- MacBook Air M4 16GB/256GB: 27,790,000₫ (approximately ₹80,590)
- AirPods Pro 2: 5,990,000₫ (approximately ₹17,370)
The Full Price Comparison - All 5 Stores Side by Side
Here's what you'd find if you walked this exact district 1 Saigon apple store walking route today. Prices change frequently, so always verify with our live comparison tool before you go.
| Product | ShopDunk | FPT Shop | The Gioi Di Dong | CellphoneS | Di Dong Viet | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | iPhone 16 Pro Max 256GB | 34,490,000₫ (₹1,00,000) | 34,690,000₫ (₹1,00,600) | 34,590,000₫ (₹1,00,310) | 34,290,000₫ (₹99,440) | 34,390,000₫ (₹99,730) | | MacBook Air M4 16/256 | 27,990,000₫ (₹81,170) | 27,690,000₫ (₹80,300) | 27,890,000₫ (₹80,880) | 27,590,000₫ (₹80,010) | 27,790,000₫ (₹80,590) | | AirPods Pro 2 | 5,990,000₫ (₹17,370) | 6,090,000₫ (₹17,660) | 5,890,000₫ (₹17,080) | 5,890,000₫ (₹17,080) | 5,990,000₫ (₹17,370) | | VAT Invoice | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | Yes | | English Staff | Good | Decent | Basic | Decent | Basic | | Tourist Experience | Best | Great | Average | Good | Average |
Lowest price for each product is in bold. Prices as of March 2026 - check our comparison tool for current figures.
A couple of things jump out from this table. For iPhones, CellphoneS consistently undercuts. For MacBooks, it's a toss-up between CellphoneS and FPT Shop. And for AirPods, The Gioi Di Dong and CellphoneS tie. There's no single "always cheapest" store - which is exactly why walking the route makes sense.
The maximum price difference on the iPhone 16 Pro Max across all five stores is 400,000₫ (approximately ₹1,160). On the MacBook Air M4 it's also 400,000₫. That might not sound like much in isolation, but if you're buying an iPhone and a MacBook together, that's potentially 800,000₫ (approximately ₹2,320) you'd leave on the table by not shopping around - enough to cover a really nice dinner for two.
Practical Tips for Your HCMC District 1 Electronics Walking Tour
What to bring:
- Your passport (required for VAT refund invoices)
- A phone with Google Maps offline for District 1 downloaded
- Screenshots of online prices from each retailer's website
- A card with low forex markup - Niyo, Fi, or BookMyForex are popular choices for Indian travelers
What to wear:
- Light, breathable clothing and comfortable walking shoes. The total walk is only 2.8 km but Saigon's humidity will have you sweating regardless.
Negotiation strategy: Here's what actually works. Walk the full route first without buying anything. Note every price. Then go back to the store with the best price (or the best combination of price and tourist-friendliness) and tell them you've checked all five retailers. Ask if they can do anything on the price. Vietnamese retailers respect the effort, and you'll sometimes get a small additional discount - 100,000₫ to 200,000₫ off, or a free case thrown in.
My honest opinion: If I only had time for one store, I'd go to CellphoneS on Hai Ba Trung. Best prices, knowledgeable staff, no upselling nonsense. But if I wanted the nicest experience and didn't mind paying slightly more, ShopDunk every time. The full walking route, though, is worth doing at least once - you get to see District 1, grab world-class coffee, and walk away confident you got the best deal.
After the Route: What's Next?
You've finished your district 1 Saigon apple store walking route and you know where the best price is. Before you head back to buy, make sure you:
- Check our live comparison tool at ApplePriceHunt one more time - prices can change between morning and afternoon
- Read up on the VAT refund process - you can claim back 8-10% of the purchase price at the airport. That's another 2,700,000₫+ (approximately ₹7,830) back on a MacBook Air
- Understand customs duty if you're heading back to India - there's a 50,000₫ limit before duty applies. Read our guide on buying iPhones in HCMC as a tourist
- Know which retailers are on the authorized list - all five on this route are, but if someone directs you to a shop not on this list, verify first using our Apple authorized retailer map
And if you want the most comprehensive view of pricing across every authorized retailer in Vietnam - not just District 1 - our MacBook Air M4 comparison page and iPhone 16 Pro Max comparison page pull real-time prices so you never overpay.
