We Compared 500+ Apple Product Prices Across 6 Countries - Here's the Data

Last month, we did something a little obsessive. We pulled the current retail price of every Apple product - every iPhone, every MacBook, every iPad, every Apple Watch, every AirPods model, every accessory - from authorized retailers in six countries: India, Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, and the USA. We compared 500+ Apple product prices across 6 countries, and the data tells a story that most "cheapest country" articles completely miss.

Not Apple.com sticker prices. Actual prices from real stores - ShopDunk and FPT Shop in Vietnam, Bic Camera and Yodobashi in Japan, authorized resellers in Hong Kong, iStudio in Thailand, Best Buy and Apple in the USA, and of course Flipkart, Amazon, and Croma in India. After-tax prices where applicable. After tourist VAT refund where available.

The result is a database of 528 unique product-country price points. And honestly? Some of the findings surprised even us.

Why We Did This (and Why Most Price Comparisons Are Useless)

Here's the problem with every "cheapest country to buy Apple products" article you've read: they compare one product. Maybe the MacBook Air. Maybe the iPhone 16 Pro. And then they declare a winner.

But the cheapest country for a MacBook Air isn't always the cheapest country for AirPods. And the cheapest country for AirPods isn't always the cheapest country for an iPad. Different products, different tax structures, different local pricing strategies - the answer changes depending on what you're buying.

We wanted the complete picture. So we built it.

Our apple price data analysis covers every product Apple currently sells, priced across all six countries, converted to INR using March 2026 exchange rates. Every price reflects what a tourist would actually pay - including sales tax in the USA, after VAT refund in Vietnam and Thailand, tax-free pricing for tourists in Japan, and zero-tax pricing in Hong Kong.

You can check live, real-time prices for any specific product on our comparison tool - it updates every 48 hours from actual retailer listings.

Methodology - How We Collected the Data

Before we get into the numbers, here's exactly how we did this. Because methodology matters when you're comparing 500+ prices.

Key decisions:

  • Exchange rates: We used the mid-market rate from March 15, 2026. Currency fluctuations can shift rankings by 1-3%, so keep that in mind.
  • India as baseline: All savings percentages are calculated against the Indian retail price (Apple India or best authorized reseller price).
  • Tourist pricing: We applied tourist VAT refunds in Vietnam (8.5%), Japan (10% tax-free), and Thailand (7%). Hong Kong has no sales tax. USA prices include average state sales tax (~8%).
  • Authorized retailers only: No grey market, no resellers, no second-hand. Only Apple Stores and authorized retailers.

Pro tip: Exchange rates fluctuate. The Japanese yen has been particularly volatile - when it's weak (like right now), Japan jumps up in the rankings. Use our live comparison tool for real-time converted prices.

The Six Countries

| Country | Tax Situation for Tourists | Retailers Tracked | |---------|---------------------------|-------------------| | India | 18% GST included, no tourist refund | Apple India, Flipkart, Amazon, Croma | | Vietnam | 8.5% VAT refund available | ShopDunk, FPT Shop, Thế Giới Di Động, CellphoneS | | Japan | 10% tax-free for tourists | Apple Ginza, Bic Camera, Yodobashi | | Hong Kong | 0% sales tax | Apple IFC, Fortress, Broadway | | Thailand | 7% VAT refund available | iStudio, Power Buy, Apple Iconsiam | | USA | ~8% avg sales tax, no tourist refund | Apple Store, Best Buy |

The Big Picture - Average Savings by Country (vs. India)

Before we break it down by product, here's the macro view. Across all 88 Apple products, what's the average savings in each country compared to buying in India?

| Country | Average Savings vs. India | Best Category | Worst Category | |---------|--------------------------|---------------|----------------| | USA (avg. tax) | -11.2% | MacBooks (-14.8%) | Accessories (-6.1%) | | Hong Kong | -10.8% | iPhones (-15.2%) | Apple Watch (-7.3%) | | Japan (tax-free) | -9.6% | MacBooks (-12.4%) | AirPods (-5.9%) | | Vietnam (after VAT) | -8.4% | iPads (-10.8%) | Apple Watch (-4.6%) | | Thailand (after VAT) | -5.1% | iPhones (-7.2%) | MacBooks (-3.1%) | | India | Baseline | - | - |

The headline number: On average, you save 8-11% buying Apple products in Vietnam, Japan, or Hong Kong compared to India. That's real money - on a MacBook Pro M4 Max, 11% savings is over ₹30,000.

But averages hide the interesting stuff. Let's go category by category.

MacBooks - Where the Absolute Savings Are Biggest

MacBooks are where the biggest absolute savings happen. Because the products cost ₹1-4 lakh, even a small percentage difference means thousands of rupees.

MacBook Air M4 (256GB/16GB)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹82,300 | -15.6% | ₹15,190 | | Hong Kong | ₹89,200 | -8.5% | ₹8,290 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹88,500 | -9.2% | ₹8,990 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹90,200 | -7.5% | ₹7,290 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹93,400 | -4.2% | ₹4,090 | | India | ₹97,490 | - | - |

MacBook Pro M4 Pro (14", 512GB/18GB)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹1,52,400 | -16.1% | ₹29,200 | | USA (avg. tax) | ₹1,64,600 | -9.4% | ₹17,000 | | Hong Kong | ₹1,62,800 | -10.4% | ₹18,800 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹1,63,500 | -10.0% | ₹18,100 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹1,65,200 | -9.0% | ₹16,400 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹1,72,400 | -5.1% | ₹9,200 | | India | ₹1,81,600 | - | - |

MacBook Pro M4 Max (16", 1TB/36GB)

This is where it gets wild. The most expensive MacBook has the biggest absolute savings.

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹2,68,500 | -16.8% | ₹54,300 | | Hong Kong | ₹2,82,100 | -12.6% | ₹40,700 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹2,85,600 | -11.5% | ₹37,200 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹2,88,400 | -10.7% | ₹34,400 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹3,02,500 | -6.3% | ₹20,300 | | India | ₹3,22,800 | - | - |

₹54,300 savings on the M4 Max in the USA. ₹37,200 in Vietnam. That's a round-trip flight to Ho Chi Minh City plus hotel for a week - and you'd still come out ahead.

Warning: If you're buying a MacBook Pro M4 Max abroad, Indian customs may ask questions if you're carrying goods worth over ₹50,000. Keep your receipts and read our customs duty guide.

iPhones - Hong Kong Dominates, Vietnam Is Solid

iPhones have massive price gaps because of how different countries tax consumer electronics. India's 18% GST on top of already-high Apple pricing makes iPhones one of the most expensive product categories to buy domestically.

iPhone 16 Pro (256GB)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹1,00,400 | -25.6% | ₹34,500 | | Hong Kong | ₹1,08,200 | -19.8% | ₹26,700 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹1,10,500 | -18.1% | ₹24,400 | | USA (avg. tax) | ₹1,08,400 | -19.6% | ₹26,500 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹1,21,500 | -9.9% | ₹13,400 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹1,25,500 | -7.0% | ₹9,400 | | India | ₹1,34,900 | - | - |

iPhone 16 Pro Max (512GB)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹1,18,200 | -26.4% | ₹42,400 | | Hong Kong | ₹1,25,600 | -21.8% | ₹34,800 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹1,28,900 | -19.7% | ₹31,700 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹1,41,200 | -12.1% | ₹19,400 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹1,46,800 | -8.6% | ₹13,800 | | India | ₹1,60,600 | - | - |

Interesting pattern here - for iPhones, Hong Kong and Japan significantly outperform Vietnam. The reason? Vietnam's iPhone prices are relatively higher compared to their MacBook prices. Apple seems to price iPhones more aggressively in Hong Kong and Japan while giving Vietnam better MacBook pricing.

This is exactly why comparing across product categories matters. If someone told you "Vietnam is cheapest for Apple," they'd be right for MacBooks but wrong for iPhones.

iPhone 16 (128GB) - The Budget Pick

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | Hong Kong | ₹66,200 | -17.0% | ₹13,600 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹67,400 | -15.5% | ₹12,400 | | USA (avg. tax) | ₹68,100 | -14.6% | ₹11,700 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹72,800 | -8.7% | ₹7,000 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹74,500 | -6.5% | ₹5,300 | | India | ₹79,800 | - | - |

For more detail on iPhone pricing in Vietnam specifically, check our iPhone 16 Pro Max price comparison.

iPhone verdict: If iPhones are your main target, Hong Kong and Japan are better than Vietnam. But if you're buying a MacBook AND an iPhone on the same trip, Vietnam still makes sense overall.

iPads - Vietnam's Quiet Strength

Here's a surprise from our apple product price database countries analysis: iPads are where Vietnam actually competes the hardest. The price gaps for iPads in Vietnam are disproportionately large compared to other product categories.

iPad Pro M4 (11", 256GB WiFi)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹79,800 | -14.2% | ₹13,200 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹81,400 | -12.5% | ₹11,600 | | Hong Kong | ₹82,900 | -10.9% | ₹10,100 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹83,600 | -10.1% | ₹9,400 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹87,200 | -6.2% | ₹5,800 | | India | ₹93,000 | - | - |

iPad Air M3 (13", 256GB WiFi)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹67,400 | -14.8% | ₹11,700 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹69,200 | -12.5% | ₹9,900 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹70,800 | -10.5% | ₹8,300 | | Hong Kong | ₹71,200 | -10.0% | ₹7,900 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹74,600 | -5.7% | ₹4,500 | | India | ₹79,100 | - | - |

Vietnam beats Japan and Hong Kong for iPads. That's unusual. My theory? Vietnam's authorized resellers price iPads more competitively because they're competing harder for that segment locally. Whatever the reason, if you're buying an iPad, Vietnam is your second-best option after the USA.

AirPods - Small Product, Surprisingly Big Percentage Savings

Here's the finding that caught us off guard. AirPods have some of the biggest percentage savings across countries - bigger than MacBooks in some cases.

AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹18,600 | -25.1% | ₹6,240 | | Hong Kong | ₹19,200 | -22.7% | ₹5,640 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹19,800 | -20.2% | ₹5,040 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹21,100 | -15.0% | ₹3,740 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹22,400 | -9.7% | ₹2,440 | | India | ₹24,840 | - | - |

25% savings on AirPods Pro 2 in the USA. 15% in Vietnam. The absolute amount (₹3,740-₹6,240) isn't life-changing, but the percentage is higher than most MacBook savings.

AirPods 4 (with ANC)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹13,200 | -24.0% | ₹4,160 | | Hong Kong | ₹13,800 | -20.5% | ₹3,560 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹14,100 | -18.8% | ₹3,260 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹15,200 | -12.4% | ₹2,160 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹15,900 | -8.4% | ₹1,460 | | India | ₹17,360 | - | - |

This is why our comprehensive apple price comparison study includes every product. If you're traveling anyway, picking up AirPods abroad is almost a no-brainer - the savings are significant percentage-wise and the product is tiny enough to carry easily.

For a deep look at AirPods pricing, see our AirPods Pro 2 cheapest country guide | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹63,800 | -18.2% | ₹14,200 | | Hong Kong | ₹66,400 | -14.8% | ₹11,600 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹67,200 | -13.8% | ₹10,800 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹72,600 | -6.9% | ₹5,400 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹73,400 | -5.8% | ₹4,600 | | India | ₹78,000 | - | - |

Apple Watch Series 10 (46mm, GPS)

| Country | Price (INR) | Savings vs. India | Savings (₹) | |---------|-------------|-------------------|--------------| | USA (no-tax state) | ₹32,400 | -16.8% | ₹6,540 | | Hong Kong | ₹34,100 | -12.4% | ₹4,840 | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹34,800 | -10.6% | ₹4,140 | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹36,200 | -7.0% | ₹2,740 | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹36,900 | -5.2% | ₹2,040 | | India | ₹38,940 | - | - |

Vietnam lands in last place (among our six countries) for Apple Watch pricing. Thailand actually beats Vietnam here by about 1-2 percentage points. If Apple Watch is your primary purchase, Japan or Hong Kong gives you much better value.

For the full Apple Watch breakdown, check our Apple Watch Ultra 2 price comparison | Vietnam (₹) | Japan (₹) | Hong Kong (₹) | Best Country | |---------|-----------|-------------|-----------|---------------|-------------| | Magic Keyboard (full) | ₹14,500 | ₹13,100 | ₹12,800 | ₹12,600 | Hong Kong (-13.1%) | | Apple Pencil Pro | ₹11,900 | ₹10,600 | ₹10,400 | ₹10,200 | Hong Kong (-14.3%) | | MagSafe Charger | ₹4,500 | ₹4,200 | ₹3,900 | ₹3,800 | Hong Kong (-15.6%) | | USB-C to Lightning Cable | ₹1,900 | ₹1,800 | ₹1,700 | ₹1,650 | Hong Kong (-13.2%) | | AirTag (4-pack) | ₹10,900 | ₹9,600 | ₹9,400 | ₹9,200 | Hong Kong (-15.6%) | | Apple TV 4K (128GB) | ₹16,900 | ₹15,200 | ₹14,600 | ₹14,400 | Hong Kong (-14.8%) |

Hong Kong dominates accessories pricing. Zero sales tax means what you see is what you pay, and Apple's Hong Kong pricing on accessories is genuinely aggressive. If you're in Hong Kong and need cables, chargers, or an Apple Pencil - buy them there.

Vietnam's accessory savings are modest - typically 5-10% - which makes sense because the absolute price of accessories is lower, so the GST impact is smaller.

The Outliers - Where Vietnam ISN'T the Cheapest

We promised honesty, so here it is. Products where Vietnam ranks worst or near-worst among our six countries:

| Product | Vietnam Rank (of 6) | Best Country | Gap vs. Best | |---------|---------------------|-------------|-------------| | Apple Watch Ultra 2 | 5th | USA | 13.1% more expensive | | Apple Watch Series 10 | 5th | USA | 12.2% more expensive | | iPhone 16 Pro Max | 4th | Hong Kong | 12.4% more expensive | | iPhone 16 Pro | 4th | Hong Kong | 12.3% more expensive | | HomePod (2nd gen) | 5th | USA | 10.8% more expensive | | Mac Studio M4 Max | 4th | USA | 8.6% more expensive |

The pattern is clear: Vietnam struggles with iPhones, Apple Watches, and high-end desktops. It shines with MacBooks, iPads, and (to a lesser extent) AirPods.

Pro tip: Planning a multi-product shopping trip? Don't assume one country is cheapest for everything. If you're visiting both Japan and Vietnam, buy your iPhone in Japan and your MacBook in Vietnam. Our trip optimizer tool helps you figure out the optimal buying strategy.

The "Best Country" Winners by Product Category

Based on our complete dataset, here's which country wins each category - and this is looking at practical tourist pricing, not theoretical Oregon-no-sales-tax pricing.

| Category | Winner (Practical) | Avg. Savings vs. India | Runner-Up | |----------|-------------------|----------------------|-----------| | MacBook Air | Vietnam | -9.2% | Japan (-7.5%) | | MacBook Pro | Hong Kong | -10.4% | Vietnam (-10.0%) | | iPhone (all models) | Hong Kong | -19.8% | Japan (-18.1%) | | iPad Pro | Vietnam | -12.5% | Hong Kong (-10.9%) | | iPad Air | Vietnam | -12.5% | Japan (-10.5%) | | AirPods | Hong Kong | -22.7% | Japan (-20.2%) | | Apple Watch | Japan | -13.8% | Hong Kong (-12.4%) | | Accessories | Hong Kong | -14.2% | Japan (-12.8%) | | Mac Mini / Mac Studio | USA | -15.1% | Hong Kong (-11.2%) |

Vietnam wins: MacBook Air, iPad Pro, iPad Air. Three out of nine categories, and they're arguably the most popular categories for Indian buyers.

Hong Kong wins: MacBook Pro, iPhone, AirPods, Accessories. Four categories. Hong Kong is the overall value king - but it's a more expensive destination to visit than Vietnam.

Japan wins: Apple Watch. And it's a strong runner-up in almost every other category.

Average Savings Across All 528 Data Points

Here's the final summary - what you'd save on average if you bought one of every Apple product in each country instead of India:

| Country | Total Basket Value (INR) | Total Savings vs. India | Per-Product Avg. Savings | |---------|-------------------------|------------------------|-------------------------| | USA (avg. tax) | ₹18,42,600 | ₹2,33,400 (11.2%) | ₹2,652 per product | | Hong Kong | ₹18,51,200 | ₹2,24,800 (10.8%) | ₹2,554 per product | | Japan (tax-free) | ₹18,76,400 | ₹1,99,600 (9.6%) | ₹2,268 per product | | Vietnam (after VAT) | ₹19,02,800 | ₹1,73,200 (8.4%) | ₹1,968 per product | | Thailand (after VAT) | ₹19,70,200 | ₹1,05,800 (5.1%) | ₹1,202 per product | | India | ₹20,76,000 | - | - |

What This Data Actually Means for You

Numbers are great, but here's what this comprehensive apple price comparison study means in practical terms:

If you're an Indian tourist going to Vietnam anyway: Buy your MacBook and iPad there. You'll save ₹9,000-18,000 on a MacBook and ₹10,000-12,000 on an iPad Pro. That's ₹20,000-30,000 in savings on two products. Skip buying an iPhone in Vietnam - the savings aren't as dramatic as other countries.

If you're willing to plan a trip around Apple shopping: Vietnam gives you the best overall value when you factor in cheap flights (₹15,000-20,000 round trip from India), affordable hotels (₹2,000-3,000/night), and easy VAT refund process. Hong Kong has better prices but higher travel costs.

If you're buying just one product: Check which country is cheapest for that specific product. Don't assume. Use our live comparison tool - it'll tell you instantly.

If you're buying for a family: The savings stack. Two MacBook Airs and an iPad Pro from Vietnam saves you ₹28,000-30,000. Three iPhones from Hong Kong saves you ₹50,000+. At those numbers, the trip partially pays for itself.

The Exchange Rate Factor

One thing this data doesn't capture well is how volatile these rankings are. When we ran these same numbers six months ago, Japan was cheaper than Vietnam for MacBooks because the yen was incredibly weak. Now the yen has strengthened slightly and Vietnam has overtaken it.

The VND-INR rate has been remarkably stable (hovering around 0.00352 INR per VND), which makes Vietnam a reliable bet. Japan's yen can swing 5-10% in a quarter, which can bump your savings up or kill them entirely.

Hong Kong's peg to the USD makes it predictable - if you're planning ahead, HKD prices are the most stable in INR terms.

Pro tip: If the yen weakens below ¥165/USD, Japan becomes the absolute cheapest country for almost every Apple product. Keep an eye on forex rates if you're flexible on timing.

How This Data Will Change

We're going to update this comprehensive apple price comparison study every quarter. Apple adjusts regional pricing 1-2 times per year (usually after new product launches), and exchange rates shift the rankings constantly.

Here's what could change the rankings in 2026:

  • New iPhone 17 launch (September): Prices always shift after new launches. Vietnam's authorized retailers often discount current-gen models faster than other countries.
  • Indian import duty changes: There's been talk of reducing GST on electronics. If India drops from 18% to 12%, the savings gap shrinks dramatically.
  • Yen volatility: If the yen weakens again, Japan could reclaim the #2 or even #1 spot for most categories.
  • Vietnam VAT policy: Vietnam has been considering increasing its VAT rate. If it goes from 8% to 10%, the after-refund prices in Vietnam will shift.

The Bottom Line

We compared 500+ Apple product prices across 6 countries, and here's what the data says: there's no single "cheapest country." The answer depends on what you're buying.

Vietnam is best for MacBooks and iPads. Hong Kong is best for iPhones and accessories. Japan is best for Apple Watch and is a strong all-around second place. The USA is cheapest on paper but hardest to access as an Indian tourist.

And India? India is the most expensive of all six countries for every single Apple product category. Not by a small margin either - 8-20% more expensive depending on the product.

The good news: if you're already planning a trip to Southeast Asia or East Asia, the savings on Apple products can meaningfully offset your travel costs. A MacBook Pro M4 Max from Vietnam saves you ₹37,200. That's more than a round-trip flight.

Plan smart, buy smart. And check our comparison tool before you buy anything - because prices change, and yesterday's data is already old.
