Mac Mini M4 Price Comparison - Is It Cheaper to Buy Abroad?
The Mac Mini M4 price comparison countries data is wild this year. Apple's $499 desktop starts at ₹59,900 in India - but you can pick up the exact same machine in Vietnam for roughly 13,490,000₫ (~₹44,200). That's a ₹15,700 difference for identical hardware. I've been tracking Mac Mini prices across six countries for the past two months, and the gaps are big enough to plan a trip around.
The 2024 Mac Mini redesign made this little box absurdly small. It's roughly the size of a thick paperback novel. And that changes everything about buying one abroad - because unlike a MacBook, you can literally toss it into a carry-on pouch and forget it's there. I flew back from Ho Chi Minh City last November with one in my backpack, tucked between a water bottle and a neck pillow. Nobody at customs gave it a second look.
Here's my honest take: the Mac Mini M4 is the best value Mac you can buy in 2026. Nothing else comes close at this price-to-performance ratio. And if you buy it in the right country, the value gets even more absurd.
Mac Mini M4 Base Model Price Across 6 Countries
This is the table most people are looking for. I've compiled the mac mini m4 price comparison countries data for the base model (M4 chip, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD) across six popular destinations for electronics shopping. All conversions use late March 2026 exchange rates.
| Country | Local Price | Approx. INR | Savings vs India | |---|---|---|---| | United States | $499 | ~₹42,400 | ₹17,500 | | Vietnam | 13,490,000₫ | ~₹44,200 | ₹15,700 | | Japan (tax-free) | ¥84,800 | ~₹47,100 | ₹12,800 | | Hong Kong | HK$4,199 | ~₹46,000 | ₹13,900 | | Thailand | ฿19,900 | ~₹48,600 | ₹11,300 | | India | ₹59,900 | ₹59,900 | - |
The US is cheapest on paper, but you can't just walk into an Apple Store on a tourist visa and claim tax exemption in most states. Some states have no sales tax - Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon - but you'd have to actually be there. Japan's tax-free pricing for tourists at Bic Camera or Apple Ginza is more practical if you're already visiting.
Vietnam stands out because it combines a low sticker price with easy access for Indian travelers (visa on arrival or e-visa), a functioning VAT refund system, and authorized retailers who are used to dealing with foreign buyers.

Mac Mini M4 Pro - Prices for the Serious Upgrade
If you need more muscle, the M4 Pro variant (14-core CPU, 20-core GPU, 24GB RAM, 512GB SSD) starts at $1,399 in the US. The price gaps widen significantly at this tier.
| Country | Local Price (M4 Pro) | Approx. INR | Savings vs India | |---|---|---|---| | United States | $1,399 | ~₹1,18,900 | ₹46,100 | | Vietnam | 37,990,000₫ | ~₹1,24,600 | ₹40,400 | | Japan (tax-free) | ¥234,800 | ~₹1,30,400 | ₹34,600 | | Hong Kong | HK$11,499 | ~₹1,26,100 | ₹38,900 | | Thailand | ฿54,900 | ~₹1,34,000 | ₹31,000 | | India | ₹1,65,000 | ₹1,65,000 | - |
Saving ₹40,000+ on the M4 Pro by buying in Vietnam is substantial. That's almost the price of an iPad. And for professionals who need the Pro chip - video editors, 3D modelers, developers running heavy Docker setups - this is the variant worth flying for.

Why the Mac Mini Is Uniquely Good for Buying Abroad
Laptops get all the attention when people talk about buying Apple products overseas. But the Mac Mini has some unique advantages that make it arguably better suited for an abroad purchase.
Universal Power Supply
The Mac Mini's power adapter handles 100-240V automatically. You don't need a voltage converter. Just a cheap plug adapter - or don't even bother, since most Indian power strips accept the US-style two-prong plug the Mini ships with. I plugged my Vietnam-bought Mini straight into a wall socket at home in Bangalore. Worked immediately.
It's Tiny and Packable
The 2024 redesign made the Mac Mini genuinely tiny. It's 12.7 cm square and 5 cm tall. Weighs about 680 grams for the M4 model. That's lighter than most hardcover books. You can wrap it in a t-shirt and slide it into your carry-on. I've done exactly this.
No Screen or Keyboard Included
This is both a pro and a con. You're not carrying a full computer through customs - it looks more like a random tech accessory. But you also need a monitor, keyboard, and mouse waiting for you at home. Most people buying a Mac Mini already have peripherals, so this isn't usually an issue.
Easier Customs Situation
A desktop computer sitting in your bag doesn't scream "expensive electronics purchase" the way a shiny new MacBook does. There's no screen, no keyboard, no charger brick. It's a small metal box. I'm not saying you should hide purchases from customs - you absolutely should declare what you need to declare. But the reality is that a Mac Mini attracts far less attention than a laptop.
Warning: Indian customs allows ₹50,000 worth of goods duty-free for returning travelers. The base Mac Mini from Vietnam (~₹44,200) falls just under this limit. The M4 Pro does not. Japan
- Bic Camera - Tax-free counter for tourists. Show your passport. Huge stores in Shinjuku, Akihabara, Osaka's Namba. They stock every Mac Mini config.
- Apple Ginza / Apple Omotesando - Official Apple Stores with tax-free pricing for foreign passports.
Hong Kong
- Apple Canton Road (Tsim Sha Tsui) or Apple ifc mall (Central). No sales tax in Hong Kong at all - the sticker price is what you pay. Period.
Thailand
- iStudio - Apple Premium Reseller chain. Locations in every major mall. CentralWorld in Bangkok is the easiest to find.
- Apple Iconsiam - Apple's flagship Bangkok store, right on the river.

Ship It or Carry It? The Decision Tree
One of the unique things about the Mac Mini - because it's a desktop, not a laptop - is that shipping it internationally is actually viable. It's small, relatively light, and ships in a compact box. Here's how to think about it:
The sweet spot is clear: if you're already flying to Vietnam, Japan, or Hong Kong, throw a base Mac Mini in your bag. The savings cover a nice dinner. If you're not traveling, the math changes - shipping costs and import duties can eat most of your discount.
Real Cost Breakdown: Vietnam Purchase vs India Purchase
Let me show you the actual numbers for someone buying a Mac Mini M4 base model in Vietnam and carrying it home to India.
Vietnam purchase (carry in luggage):
- Mac Mini M4 base at ShopDunk: 13,490,000₫
- VAT refund (~8.5%): -1,147,000₫
- Effective price: 12,343,000₫ (~₹40,500)
- Customs duty: ₹0 (under ₹50,000 limit)
- Total cost: ~₹40,500
India purchase:
- Mac Mini M4 base at Apple India: ₹59,900
- No additional costs
- Total cost: ₹59,900
You save: ~₹19,400 buying in Vietnam
That's a 32% saving. Even if you don't get the VAT refund (some people don't bother with the airport paperwork), you're still saving ₹15,700. Genuinely significant for a ₹59,900 product.
Now compare that to the M4 Pro:
Vietnam M4 Pro purchase (carry in luggage):
- Mac Mini M4 Pro at ShopDunk: 37,990,000₫ (~₹1,24,600)
- VAT refund (~8.5%): -3,229,000₫
- Effective price: 34,761,000₫ (~₹1,14,000)
- Customs duty on amount over ₹50,000: ~₹24,600 (38.5% on ₹64,000)
- Total cost: ~₹1,38,600
India M4 Pro purchase:
- ₹1,65,000
- Total cost: ₹1,65,000
You save: ~₹26,400 buying in Vietnam (even after customs duty)
Still worth it. But the duty calculation makes it more complicated, and you'll need to declare it. Our customs duty calculator for electronics bought abroad for the base model, it's not the cheapest option globally. But it's ₹12,800 cheaper than India, and the buying experience is extremely smooth.
At Bic Camera in Shinjuku, I watched a tourist buy a Mac Mini in under ten minutes. Passport scan, tax-free form, done. They even gave him Bic Camera points (which he used to buy a USB-C hub on the spot). The process at Apple's own stores is similarly fast.
Japan makes the most sense if you're already visiting. The mac mini is cheaper abroad in Japan than India by a meaningful margin, but Vietnam and the US beat it on pure price. If you're choosing a destination specifically to buy a Mac Mini, Vietnam offers the best combination of savings and easy logistics for Indian travelers.

Common Questions About Buying a Mac Mini Abroad
Will the warranty work in India?
Apple provides a one-year international warranty on Macs. A Mac Mini bought in Vietnam, Japan, or Hong Kong can be serviced at any Apple Authorized Service Provider in India. I've had my Vietnam-bought Mac serviced at an AASP in Koramangala, Bangalore - no questions asked. For details, read our post on Apple international warranty and India.
What about the keyboard and mouse?
The Mac Mini doesn't come with a keyboard or mouse. If you want Apple peripherals, you can buy them abroad too - or just use what you already have at home. Any USB-C or Bluetooth keyboard and mouse will work.
Do I need a display adapter?
The Mac Mini M4 has an HDMI port and three Thunderbolt ports. Most monitors connect via HDMI without any adapter. If you have a USB-C monitor, even better - direct Thunderbolt connection. No adapters needed for the vast majority of setups.
Can I get it shipped internationally?
Yes, but it usually negates the savings. DHL or FedEx from Vietnam to India runs ₹3,000-5,000 for a small box. Then Indian customs will assess duty on the full declared value - no ₹50,000 exemption for shipped goods. You'd pay roughly 42% in duties (basic customs + IGST), which brings the total close to or above the Indian retail price.
The Best Credit Card to Use
Forex markup on your credit card can quietly eat 1.5-3.5% of your savings. That's ₹600-1,400 on a base Mac Mini purchase. Use a zero or low forex markup card.
