Apple India operated as online-and-reseller-only from 1995 through April 2023, when it finally opened Apple BKC in Mumbai (April 18, 2023) and Apple Saket in Delhi (April 20, 2023) - Apple's first direct-operated physical retail stores in India after 25+ years in the Indian market. Tim Cook personally presided over the Mumbai opening, making it one of the most covered Apple retail launches globally. The stores were designed by Apple's retail architecture team in collaboration with local architects, and feature India-specific elements (handwoven textile details, local materials) alongside Apple's standard retail design language.
